Why visit Wyoming

Big Sky, Bigger Adventures

Wyoming is the least populous US state and arguably the most dramatic. Covering nearly 254,000 square kilometres of high plains, mountain ranges and river valleys, it rewards visitors with the kind of space that is increasingly rare on earth. The horizon here is something you feel in your chest, and the silence is filled with the sound of wind across sage and the distant call of elk. This is a place that reminds you what the land looked like before it was tamed.

Yellowstone and Grand Teton

Two of the world's great national parks sit inside Wyoming's borders. Yellowstone, established in 1872 as the first national park on the planet, is a supervolcanic wonderland of geysers, hot springs and bison herds moving across thermal plains. Grand Teton rises just to the south, its jagged cathedral peaks reflected in glacial lakes and framed by meadows full of wildflowers in summer. Between them they offer some of the most photographed and most profound landscapes in North America.

Cowboy Culture and Western Heritage

Wyoming earned its nickname as the Cowboy State honestly. Cheyenne's Frontier Days rodeo, held every July, is one of the oldest and largest in the world, drawing competitors and spectators from across the country for ten days of bareback riding, barrel racing and western pageantry. The state's ranching traditions are alive in working guest ranches, cattle drives open to visitors, and the kind of hospitality that involves a handshake and means it. History runs deep through every dusty main street and timber saloon.

Year-Round Outdoor Pursuits

Jackson Hole is a world-class ski resort in winter, with the steepest inbounds terrain in the United States and a village that balances mountain-town charm with excellent dining and art galleries. Come summer, the same slopes become trails for hiking and mountain biking, while the Snake River offers outstanding fly fishing and white-water rafting. Climbing, kayaking, stargazing in some of the darkest skies in the lower 48 and wildlife watching complete a four-season menu that keeps adventurous travellers returning year after year.
